Story
My name is Jared Barton, representing Knights of Columbus Council 3291, serving the St. Oscar Romero Parish in Canonsburg, Muse, and Meadowlands in Washington County, Pennsylvania. We have formed this GoFundMe in hopes of helping fellow brother and knight Ryan McCartney, who was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer at the age of 29 in early 2025.
Ryan and his wife Emily took the tough news about the illness in stride and started treatments as soon as the size and scope of the disease were confirmed by testing. Neuroendocrine cancer is a rare disease, affecting about 6 in 100,000 people worldwide, but the case numbers are starting to rise due to improved diagnostic testing that detects the illness faster.
From what we have found out to this point, this disease is slow-moving, and the treatment could be just as slow to start working, although early results have shown improvement. The road the McCartney family is on could be a long one, with a potential for different avenues for treatment and a mix of medical professionals across the country contributing to the solution.
Along with a spaghetti dinner fundraiser scheduled for June 29th at Holy Rosary in Muse, we wanted to provide an additional source of income for the McCartneys to help with medical expenses and potential travel that could be on the table for treatment of this rare cancer.
We thank all the family, friends and other potential donors for their continued support throughout this process!
