Loghman is Free! Let’s join in the healing.
Australia
Loghman has come down with covid and his workplace does not pay him during this time. If anyone would can help with short-term needs would be appreciated.
I first met Loghman in Port Moresby in April 2017, soon after he had been released from jail after fleeing to Fiji and being deported back to PNG.
I had brought a couple of small gifts, and requests from friends to pass on a hug to Loghman. In hugging Loghman I was very much aware, and dismayed, in knowing the harm being done to him without reason. I wished at the time that Scott Morrison and Peter Dutton could give him such a hug, for in knowing someone as a fellow human I did not think anyone could continue the wanton harm. But sadly the harm was to continue.
Loghman had fled Iran and arrived in Australia on July 24th 2013, 5 days after the Australian Government, playing God, determined that those arriving by boat would never be welcomed in Australia. He was then detained offshore by Australia for ‘processing’, in the most horrendous of circumstances.
It was to be over 8 years before Loghman was to find himself, finally and we hope permanently, free from the abuse of indefinite detention perpetrated by the Australian Government.
After 2,936 days of indefinite detention, with no crime and no charge, on August 6th 2021, Loghman was taken from the BITA detention centre in Brisbane (at short notice) and flown to the USA. To be accepted there as a refugee, offered welcome, and a chance to recover from the 8 years – from age 17 to 25, of tremendous harm done to him by Australian authorities.
For several years, while in the ‘care’ of the Australian government, Loghman had sought, in PNG and then in Australia, treatment for his teeth. After years of increasing pain, it was only when a dentist in Brisbane, against the direct instructions of IHMS, let Loghman see (and take a photo of) his dental report (done 1 year prior) which had requested immediate surgery on his impacted wisdom teeth, that this operation was eventually carried out. The intended post-surgery follow-up visits and other needed dental work never occurred.
The good news is Loghman is now free from ABF and IHMS and able to seek dental help.
Attached below is the Treatment Plan from his initial dental visit in the US. Estimated total costs are over $10,000 USD.
Loghman has no financial capacity to pay for this, so we are seeking to raise this amount to help him in his recovery and healing.
** Update: After 4 months Loghman has finally received his Permit to Work in the US! And following from this has enrolled in a Truck Driving School to obtain his truck license. He is confident of being able to obtain work after this, maybe after the end of winter. The cost of the course is $4,000 USD. Loghman as borrowed half this amount from a friend, and is looking for help with the remaining half. Once working he believes he will be able to save to complete the needed treatment on his teeth. **
Please join with us in helping Loghman complete this training, see his teeth given needed attention, and to encourage him as enters, with courage, into many new opportunities ahead.
Let’s do what we can to undo the harm that the Australian Government has inflicted on Loghman. This will make a difference in his life.
