Orphaned by War, Fighting to Survive: Mohammed’s Escape Fund
United States
A message from Mo: “I am Mohammed from Gaza. I live a very difficult life. I am alone. No one is with me. I am an orphan. I have no father. I live a difficult life. I have lived a year and a half of war. My hands and feet were injured. The house I live in was bombed by Israeli warplanes. Now I do not know what to do. I will not be able to buy the necessary things. Ramadan has come and we are fasting, but I will not be able to provide food every day. I am tired of this life. I want you to help me with any money so that I can buy everything. I hope that everyone will help me. Please, my sister is difficult. Life in Gaza has become very difficult. Everything is expensive. Everything, please help me. My family and I were sleeping at 1 am. The house opposite ours was bombed and the rubble collapsed on us. There were injuries and martyrs. I came out from under the rubble injured, but now thank God I am better. The last one was at the beginning of the war. We were displaced and my family and I slept in the street for a whole month. No one will be able to help us. Now I have become lost. I live alone. My life has become difficult because I lost my family, but this is God’s will. Thank God. Now the war may return. Prices have become very high again. I need $1,300 a month to be able to live. The least thing is that life in Gaza has become more expensive than in America. Life here is very difficult. I hope that everyone will help me and stand by me so that I can live. Contribute so that I can live and stay alive. You are my only hope.” -Mohammed Marwan, 17, Gaza, Palestine At the Grey Legacy, we work with refugees who are still within Gaza, who are suffering the worst of the worst. We met Mo when he was brought to our attention by a friend, asking for help managing his campaign. We, over time, organically built a relationship based on trust. He is now the baby of the Grey Legacy, he turned 17 in January, 3 days after the ceasefire went into effect.
Mohammed needs help more desperately than ever. The invasion of Gaza has begun. Israel has begun the ground invasion of Gaza City, with the plan to occupy all of Gaza and ethnically cleanse the Palestinian people from their land. A 17 year old, named Mohammed, was orphaned in Gaza. He is in the northern part, where the ground invasion of Gaza has begun. He is scared, he is exhaused, he is hungry. He is experiencing famine, and hardships beyond imagination. I am his family, and his hope, and I need help helping him. Mohammed will get out of Gaza, InshaAllah, and it will take a village. He needs funds for food, he needs funds for medicine, whatever needs he may have. The famine in Gaza has reached staged 5, meaning, even if the aid flooded in tomorrow and the genocide ends, hundreds if not thousands will still die. From things like refeeding syndrome, or the lack of ability to digest things anymore. It is a devastating conflict, and no one deserves to live the way he has been living.
Mo has had a rough few weeks, the prices in Gaza got very, very high and now they are getting lower. More food has been let into Gaza which means the prices get lower. Mo also told me he went to the doctor for neck pain, he needs treatment for it and was referred to a private doctor for injections and medication. Mo’s friend Ahmed that he hung out with often, was killed on July 26th. He was killed in front of Mo, at an aid distribution site. Trying to access aid, so they did not starve to death.
Mo has been in somewhat more positive spirits, but he does need donations urgently to survive. He has absolutley been facing challenges on many fronts, including but not limited to – hunger, lack of clean drinking water, unbearable heat, the lack of food is never enough, the prices are sky high, there is no access to things like hygeine products, or basic necessities. Here is a photo he sent us recently, and you can tell he looks older now. He is 17, but the war has aged him, as it has everyone else. He would like to get a haircut soon, if possible.
