You may have heard of the BC Compassion Club Society (BCCCS). We are its other half and we need your help! For 25 years, we have operated out of East Vancouver, pushing the edge of medical accessibility and equality by running the largest and longest running non-profit holistic health care clinic and herbal apothecary in North America. We offer subsidized, low-cost health care and wellness services, as well as high-quality plant-based medicines and supplements that treat a variety of health conditions, from HIV to cancer, autoimmune conditions, chronic pain, mental health and more. Sadly, we are losing our home on Commercial Drive, and our access to funds, due to the closure of our parent organization that, up until now, funded 80% of our operating costs.

Literally, it is “her” story. Two women activists, with a bike, a vision, and a backpack filled with herbal and plant-based medicines, riding throughout their communities, delivering help to those in need. These two young women shared a deep belief that alternative, holistic health care should and can be accessible to all.

They found a team of practitioners who were willing to take the risk and to work for only a fraction of their market wage, so that patients could receive their treatments for (almost) free. Seeing the need for access to quality herbal medicines, they worked to ceate the largest functional apothecary in North America.

Currently, we offer services such as herbalism, counselling, acupuncture, nutrition, body work, and energy work, as well as low-cost supplements and custom-made, personalized herbal formulations.

The Wellness Centre plays a crucial role in many people’s lives. So far, we have been able to consistently offer $40,000 in herb and supplement donations each year, as well as offer 3,000 subsidized appointments. But all this could end without your help!

Become part of a reimagined health care model, and more equitable way of delivering alternative health care services.

Though we are losing our current physical location and funding, our vision is to continue as a separately run organization, an independent non-profit, called Compassion Roots Wellness Centre (CRWC).

It will be fully self-funded through donations and subsidies by patients able to pay market-rate. This means that every time a market-rate patient books a treatment, it will go towards helping someone else who could not otherwise afford that same service – something that could make a huge difference in someone’s life.

We are even looking to expand our services through telehealth and educational online webinars, so we can help people throughout British Columbia and potentially nationwide.

Compassion Roots will be a unique model, which weaves fundamental healing modalities into a quilt of support that spreads to the local community and beyond.
