Since 2014, the Celia family has endured an unrelenting series of tragedies. The father, once a hardworking provider, suffered a life-altering injury during one of the wars, losing his left hand to a devastating airstrike. Despite the pain, he has fought every day to stay strong for his family.
The hardships didn’t end there. In 2021, their home was destroyed for the first time during an escalation of violence, leaving them homeless on the streets of Gaza. As they struggled to recover from that nightmare, 2023 brought an even greater calamity. Their home was obliterated for a second time during what has been described as a “war of mass extermination,” which ravaged entire neighborhoods and shattered countless lives.
Each time, the family faced an impossible choice: flee from death or remain to witness destruction. They were forced to relocate multiple times, moving from northern Gaza to Rafah, then Khan Younis, and finally Deir al-Balah, where they found refuge in makeshift tents that barely shield them from the bitter cold of winter or the scorching summer heat.
Today, the Celia family lives in a tattered tent, devoid of basic necessities. With the father’s disability, their struggles have become even more pronounced. The childhood dreams of their children have been buried beneath the rubble of repeated wars. Yet, despite everything, this family continues to hold on to hope for a better tomorrow.
