My name is Alaa, a medical student in Gaza. I have dedicated years of my life to studying medicine, dreaming of becoming a specialist who can serve my community. But today, my entire future is at risk.
Since October 2023, Gaza has faced relentless bombardment and a complete siege. Hospitals have been destroyed or overwhelmed, universities reduced to rubble, and basic services have collapsed. Despite this, I have done everything possible to continue my education—attending lectures in hospital corridors or crowded temporary spaces whenever I could.
My family and I have been displaced multiple times since December 2023, moving from one unsafe location to another. We now live in a small rented apartment, paying high rent along with water and electricity costs, in an area where both are scarce and extremely expensive due to the blockade. Fuel for generators and water pumps is another daily struggle. Food prices have skyrocketed, and basic necessities are becoming unaffordable.
And now, another devastating blow: we have lost everything.
My family’s entire life savings, along with all our property—including our home and the apartment that was our financial security—are gone. That apartment was the key to my future. The plan was to sell it to:
