My apartment complex before the war and after it was destroyed.

Since the ceasefire in mid-January, my family and I returned to our home in northern Gaza from Deir al-Balah by foot. The journey was long and difficult and took about 5 hours, carrying everything we owned on our backs. When we arrived back to northern Gaza we discovered the conditions were much worse than we thought. Our apartment only had one structurally sound room remaining, the others with missing walls and filled with rubble and our destroyed belongings. We spent days renovating the remaining room, lining the holes in the walls with nylon to protect us from the elements, removing rubble from the floors, and salvaging and repairing any furniture we could.

Covering the destroyed and bare walls with nylon.

The rooms of our house were filled with debris from the destruction of the building and our destroyed belongings.

It is extremely difficult to source food and drinking water and we are still lining up to collect water in containers from trucks. I have to walk quite a far distance and sit in the middle of a street to obtain internet connection.

My family and I still need support in affording food, water and medicine during these harsh times. We will also slowly rebuild our home over time until it is safe and comfortable to live in permanently. This will be an ongoing expense and effort. After the excitement of the war being over and being able to return home, we were hit with the harsh reality of having to rebuild everything from scratch in our completely destroyed and uninhabitable city, still leaving our spirits and hopes low.

I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart who supported my family and I for the past year and a half, whether it was financially, words of support, sharing my fundraiser, or being concerned about me. I am grateful to all of you for ensuring that my family was able to live as best as we could throughout the duration of the war. I will never forget your help during these times. My family and I ask you with deep gratitude to keep supporting us in any way you possibly can so that we are able to start visualising living a normal life again through the rebuilding of our family home. Every donation means a lot to us and we appreciate you very much.
