Story

One of our very dedicated special education teachers at UCSD is facing a very difficult time right now. Nicole Schuknecht is currently battling stage 4 cancer. After traveling to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, she learned that she has a rare mutation that means her cancer will always be on the “on” switch. She will not ever be able to come off of chemotherapy unless a clinical trial for this specific mutation is conducted soon, leading to a new treatment. At that point, according to her doctors at MD Anderson, she would have a 1 in 6 chance of being a candidate for the clinical trial. Due to her cancer diagnosis in 2023, she was denied long-term disability by insurance during the following year’s open enrollment. As she navigates this incredibly difficult time, she deserves the chance to focus fully on what matters most—spending quality time with her husband, who works for the Georgia Forestry Commission as a wild land arson investigator, and their four school-aged children. She also needs and deserves time to rest her body. As of now, they are faced without the option of her staying home due to her income being lost.

We are reaching out to our generous community of friends, coworkers, churches, businesses, and caring hearts to rally around her and her family to provide the support they need. Whether through one-time donations, monthly pledges, prayers, or simply spreading the word, every gesture helps. We are stepping out in faith, believing that the generous community of Blairsville, along with God’s amazing grace, can make it possible for Nicole to be able to stay home during the upcoming school year and focus on quality time with her family and rest her body.

Donations and pledges can be made through this Go Fund Me or dropped off directly at River City Bank in Blairsville where an account has been set up for them. Please prayerfully consider contributing to this meaningful cause.

“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
— Galatians 6:2
