My name is Jessica and I live in Canada. I am leading this fundraising initiative to support my friend Dr. Rana and her family. They are not able to create their own fundraiser due to their location. Dr. Rana and family have been verified by the mutual aid organization Butterfly Effect Project (@butterflyeffect.project on Instagram). They are family #544.

Dr. Rana continues to work in hospitals despite the danger. She is paid only $200 per month. Her husband, Dr. Rajaie, lost his dentist office and has not been able to work. Their children are Atta (7), Lana (5), and baby Mohammed (1).

Baby Mohammed, born during this conflict, has a severe rash due to the lack of diapers. Rana is currently using adult diapers for him, cut into 3 to make the most of them. The cost of diapers is $200 – all of their monthly income.

The purpose of this campaign is to help cover the costs of necessities, such as diapers, fresh food and water, soap, and other needs that arise. Dr. Rana has another campaign to cover evacuation fees. Unfortunately, it is going very slowly. In the meantime, they need funds to help them survive. They lost everything and the costs of living are extremely high in Palestine due to scarcity.

Please consider helping me to support this family through the worst time of their lives. Any donation, big or small, makes a big difference the them.

Yesterday there was a horrific attack on Nasser hospital. Israel targeted a stairwell where journalists gather to access wifi. When rescue workers and journalists went to assist and report on an initial attack, they too were targeted. 20 people were killed, including 5 journalists. Many more were injured.

Dr. Rana works at Nasser every day. She sees unimaginable injuries every day. Even still, she is in shock from what occurred yesterday. Dr. Rana is fine physically, but the things she sees will be with her always.

I was chatting with Dr. Rajaie yesterday. When he learned it was my daughter’s birthday, he wanted to gift their recent donations to her. Of course I did not accept. My daughter has more than she needs. His children have been deprived of their childhood for 18 months.

Dr. Rana is still working in the hospital. Dr. Rajaie is working in a friend’s dentistry clinic with hopes of opening his own practice again one day.

Dr. Rajaie and Dr. Rana would like to relocate to a safer country. It is incredibly difficult for Palestinians to immigrate due to their refugee status, high fees, and the prejudiced restrictions of many countries. But, I just thought I would put it out here that if you happen to know of any ways that two highly educated people can relocate, please keep them in mind.
