A prideful man laying helplessly on the couch, not able to do a thing. He once was the man who could do it all, and who never stopped. He’s a man of many trades. He’s a man with much love and generosity to give to this world. He’s a man who was unjustly robbed of his abilities due to his godforsaken illnesses. He’s a man who happens to be my father, and his time is running short. His life is the line that keeps my family cohesive. Without his presence, our unit will never function the same, and I am not willing to accept that as a reality right now because I know something can be done about it.

Unfortunately, there are so many bills to pay when it comes to treating him. It would be okay if my mother got paid more money, or if we didn’t have a house payment to worry about. It would be okay if I was able to make more money without risking my financial aid package to continue college. It would even be okay if new prescription needs weren’t popping up left and right and from every which way. The harsh realization, however, is that our situation (his situation) is not okay.

Love and support means the world to my family and I. It goes so much further than one could imagine. The only problem is that we live in a world that is structured around money. The hospital says they want to help, but if they don’t have their pockets filled beforehand then you might as well start investing in a coffin instead. I understand that the industry is a pricey one, and am not downing them for that. I am just trying to provide some perspective on why we can’t continue this way. soon, we won’t have the money to support my father, and as a result our family will face a serious loss and a devastating blow.

I’m normally not one to beg, but sometimes the going simply gets too tough to be able to go on without some help. I know everyone has their problems, and I don’t feel right asking for a dime. Even a penny will help though. We will take anything we can get right now. As my father’s kid, I made a promise to him to continue my education and make a good life for myself. The same goes for my sister, Hope. As for my mom; she’s got the weight of the world on her back and she just needs some sort of relief. I hate to see her going through this while I sit back feeling as helpless as my dad laying there on the couch trying to catch a decent breath.

I’m setting small goals to reach at a time. With each $200 raised I’m going to upload a picture of my dad thanking the world for their kindness. Since you are taking the time out of your day to support my family, we will be sure to reach out to you all individually to invite you to take this journey with us, because I know we could not do it without your help. We are in this together, and rest assured you will be shown what amazing effect your generous gifts have on the ones that are closest to me.

Although donations are only a small part of the challenge ahead of the Ragland family, we are happy we are able to contribute. We look forward to seeing the growth in support for this campaign and wish you all the best. -The Holzhauer Family

It means more to me than I can express in words that you would take time away from your schedule, and your life with your own problems to extend a blessing unto my family and I. I wish there was more that I could do to express my thankfulness, but just know without you, none of this support would be possible. You are a crucial piece to this puzzle we are putting together and you will forever rest in our hearts and minds as a great person with an extraordinarily delightful soul. Take care, and I will keep you updated. By the way sorry for this sideways picture I tried forever to try to get it to rotate, but you know IPhones haha… only work when they want to.
