Short Story
Germany
My name is Nader Hamad, I’m 29 years old. I studied nursing and graduated. I’ve been working as a nurse for two years. I live in Beit Hanoun, in the far north of the Gaza Strip.
On the first night of the war on Gaza, my family and I were forced to flee our home and seek refuge in Jabalia. This was our first displacement, and the fear of the unknown surrounded us at every moment. We left without preparation and lived in difficult conditions among the rubble, searching for shelter and food.
In the second week, we were forced to move again, this time to the south of Wadi Gaza, hoping to find shelter in Rafah. Our displacement continued, and our dreams of returning to our homes faded with the passing days.
In the eighth month of the war of extermination and destruction, we were asked to evacuate Rafah. We were displaced once again to Deir al-Balah under harsh and bitter conditions, where food, water, and medicine were scarce. The suffering was far from over, and the circumstances made every day a new battle for survival. During the first ceasefire of the war, neighbors who remained in the area informed us that our home and two mobile phone shops, our only source of income, were completely destroyed. The land that meant everything to us, and everything that gave us hope for a return to normal life, was destroyed. It was a devastating blow that shattered our dreams.
We are now in dire need of food, which we have been deprived of due to the closure of the crossings for more than 600 days. Life has become increasingly difficult without even the most basic necessities, and our basic needs are increasing with each passing day.
Today, we desperately need your help. We need to rebuild our family home and my destroyed shop. Your donation will allow ten members of my family to live in freedom and dignity, away from the horrors of the endless war.
We appreciate your prayers and donations for Gaza and for my family’s survival. We look forward to your help to rebuild our lives.
“My name is Nader… and I’m the eldest in my family.”
I’m not married.
But I carry a whole family on my shoulders.
My father can’t work anymore, and I’m the eldest among my siblings.
That makes me the backbone, the hope, the one who has to stay strong—even when everything around us is falling apart.
