Please listen to Ameer’s story in his own words…
Among thousands of tragic stories, one stands out, belonging to me. My name is Ameer, I am 21 years old. I belong to a family of 11 members. I currently live in Gaza City in Tal Al-Hawa Towers. I suffer from asthma and am seeking support to help my father who is seriously ill (cancer), my mother, my younger sister, and the rest of my family.
I was scheduled to graduate from university with a degree in IT/Multimedia. I dreamed of becoming a great engineer and designer and traveling around the world. And now I live inside the graveyard of dreams.
After the invasion of enemy forces, we had to evacuate our home in the north several times, and after several nights of heavy bombing, we fled our home and took refuge in residential refugee camps in the south.
On the 25th of October the IDF completely destroyed our house. My friends died in front of me. They left nothing but ashes. It destroyed our memories, our money, our comic books, and the cozy corners we used to sit in. Too many of my family and friends, all innocent civilians, were martyred. A mass of rubble. But miraculously, my family and I escaped death. Israeli air strikes and bombing caused panic for me and my family. We could not bear the sound of huge explosions that sounded like recurring earthquakes and red flames sweeping through the area. We were forced to move to southern Gaza on the orders of Israeli forces, leaving our beautiful apartments. We went to the UN refugee school in the Khan Yunis area to escape horror and death. We have stumbled into a different life full of suffering on every side, living the most painful hell of war. I became thin because of polluted water, lack of hygiene, the spread of infectious diseases, and the lack of suitable medicine. The situation is catastrophic.
“There is nothing left in Gaza but death. Even death has become a privilege because it provides a feeling of comfort.”
I pray every moment for an end to this war and a ceasefire. The ceasefire is not just a call; It is a desperate cry for an end to the helplessness and despair that pervades every corner. We escape death every day and then wake up the next morning to try to escape it again. My heart is heavy, unable to bear the recurring nightmares, the overwhelming floods of news of blood, loss, destruction and despair pouring out of Gaza. Every minute feels like a struggle. No one should have to endure this.
Continuing bombardment on the southern Gaza Strip. Residential buildings in Khan Yunis are being bombed with carpets. Everyone is insecure, thinking they might be the next to face tragedy. Communications are cut off. We are tired and can no longer bear any more tragedies and losses. Then we had to flee to Rafah to escape death again from Khan Yunis. We currently live in a handmade tent near a cemetery where the smell of death is everywhere. My poor father notices our pale faces and weak bodies as he stands helpless to do anything due to lack of money and resources.
“I am still just 21 years old, and I never thought I would witness an attack this brutal, with such complete disregard for basic human values. I am deprived of my basic rights, including education and health. I need to rebuild my shattered life abroad.” From Gaza with my family and helping us get better health care and travel to Egypt It would cost at least US$20,000, just to get out of Gaza so we can dream of pursuing our rights to have a better education system and health care.
I have seen the most horrific, unimaginable things. Massacres and bombings. Of the people I love. Right in front of me. I suffer a lot, but fortunately, I am still alive.
We sat in the tents for a long period of time. We no longer have a home or income, as we have lost all our sources of income. For several months, we have had no electricity or fuel. We struggled to obtain food, water and the means of life. Life is very difficult. We are constantly exposed to gunfire and bombing, and there is no safe place in the Gaza Strip.
My father, Nasser, had bladder cancer in 2013, and we were very worried about him. Fortunately, on April 30, he and my mother were cleared for medical evacuation and he is currently receiving treatment at the Nasser Oncology Institute and Gamal Abdel Nasser Hospital in Egypt. My father lost his source of income when he became an employee of the city municipality. My mother suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure, and we do not have any housing or money to spend on my father’s treatment and living expenses.
My priority now is to take care of my father, raise the necessary funds for my father’s treatment, and reunite my family, especially my little sister, with my father.
On behalf of my family, I sincerely and deeply ask all people of goodness and humanity to help us. Thank you.
