Short Story

Hello, I’m Vanessa from the US and along with my friend Valentina in Italy. We are the administrators of this campaign for our dear friends the Al-Farra family.
We are both happy to personally know this incredible family in Gaza who are urgently in need of your help.
This large, wonderful family includes nine people: mother Mona and her eight children, including a 15-year-old teenager and three little girls, aged 4 to 7. Mona’s husband, rock of the family, and loving father was killed a year and a half ago. From that explosion, this family’s lives were turned upside down and suddenly, in addition to the pain, they found themselves without anyone who could protect and take care of them.
The older son, 21 years old, became the sole provider to all of them. Everyday he walks for kilometers under the scorching sun, and risks his life, only to try to find something to eat. He has been to the “aid sites” multiple times: there he was pepper sprayed in the face and his ankle and leg were injured when he was hit by shrapenel from a grenade.
His dream has always been to continue his studies and become a comedian, now he tells me: “at the moment my dream is simple: I want to see my little brother grow up without knowing hunger or fear, to help my sisters complete their education, and to give my mother some peace after all the pain she has endured. I’m not asking for luxury, only the basics of a dignified life”.
This family have been displaced several times. They’re now living in a tent that provides them with no protection from the sweltering heat during the day and the freezing cold at night. The inaccessibility to fresh clean water and sanitation, in addition to bugs, means bacterial skin infections are common. Then there are the skyrocketing food prices. Here are some examples of current prices for the most basic food items, essential for survival (they all have to be doubled due to commissions!):
1kg flour: $60 (51€ / 45£) 1kg sugar: $120 (102€ / 90£) 1kg pasta: $30 (26€ / 22£) 1kg lentils: $26 (22€ / 19£) 1kg rice: $45 (38€ / 33£) 1kg tomatoes: $24 (20€ / 18£) 1kg potatoes: $30 (26€ / 22£)
Please, do all you can to save this sweet family. Any donation, no matter how small, can make a huge difference. Your generosity could mean a warm meal, clean water and essential medicine for this family. The indignity of this life is nothing anyone deserves!
If you need to know more about them, please send me a message and I will answer any questions you have.
