Indonesia hosts 15,000 refugees. When Australia changed it`s immigration policy it also paid Indonesia to keep refugees from leaving their isands in a bid to claim asylum in Australia. Refugees have no rights to education, work, bank accounts, etc. Many are held in detention centres. The “lucky” ones are under UNHCR and have squalid living conditions and basic health care. Refugees are not allowed to leave the town they are registered in. These conditions are described as INDEFINITE. Refugees can choose to remain in Indoensia without rights, return to their homeland or get sponsored to another country (usually Canada or America), this involves raising thousands of dollars and finding 5 sponsors to assist you upon arrival to the country.
Naim and his familiy have been in Indonesia for 10 years, living this cruel limbo.
Last year Naim became ill. He had neck tumors which had to be removed. Shortly afterwards he became ill again – being so run down from his operation and the poor levels of medical care available to refugees, he contracted Tuberculosis. That as
