Each year we hope for things to be less hard for children in crisis because of conflict, but their suffering looms even larger and extends further than ever before. We are pushing for them even harder as a result this year.

Children will soon face bitter weather again, countless kids living in tents, new areas opening up where families are trying to survive in the ruined concrete shells of bombed buildings. Freezing cold, no heating, inadequate clothing, subsistence food. The suffering of these poor kids doesn’t bear thinking about. That’s the dreadful situation our aid addresses.

Our Winter Survival Packs contain the very best head-to-toe pure wool handknits made by our brilliant knitting community (jumper, beanie, mittens, scarf), bought winter clothes (pants, tops, sock, underwear), shoes and gum boots, hand-made blankets, carry bags, stationery, and wonderful enrichment packs for each child with toys, games, puzzles and sport/activity items.

These packs save lives, protecting against hypothermia in the freezing winter conditions. But they do so much more, giving children comfort, clean new clothes, growing room, learning and development. They give care and moral support.

We kit out nearly 3,000 children a year, from newborn to late teen, in IDP camps, schools and maternity clinics. People rely greatly on our aid.

We’ve got a successful 12-year track record delivering critical aid to conflict areas and we’ve fine-tuned our aid for maximum impact.

We are in the final stretch of preparing our comprehensive Winter Survival Packs for the children we look after in the displacement camps in NW Syria, and now other areas of the interior which are opening up and revealing heartbreaking scenes of loss, deprivation and suffering. We’ve even more children to make provision for now. We need a lot of support to round off our packs, get the aid to the container, and on the way by our September deadline.

There’s 14 years of suffering in Syria and the recent ousting of the brutal dictatorship has revealed further untold suffering. The kids have lost everything. Children under 14 have known nothing but conflict, trauma and hardship. They receive little aid if at all. We urgently need to help.
