Dear Community, Supporter, Friends and Neighbors,
We write to you today with heavy hearts and a deep sense of urgency. A tragedy struck last week that should never have happened — one that could have been prevented if the system had listened. Now, a grieving mother, Tiara Finch, needs our support more than ever as she fights for justice for her daughter, Zara Arnold and for accountability from the institutions that failed them both.
Tiara is a Black, Deaf mother who pleaded — time and time again — with the courts, the police, and the Department of Children and Family Services to protect her daughter from a dangerous person, Zara’s father. Despite her repeated calls, concerns, and desperate cries for help, the system turned its back on her. Instead of listening, they placed her daughter in the custody of her father — a man with a documented history of domestic violence, abuse, and criminal behavior.
This decision ended in unimaginable horror.
Tiara’s beautiful little girl, Zara lost her life at the hands of the very person she was supposed to be protected from — her own father — in a brutal act of violence that included strangulation and torture. A child is gone. A mother is broken. And a system remains unaccountable.
But Tiara is not giving up. She is determined to sue every institution that failed her — the courts, the police, and child protective services — to ensure that no other mother, no other child, is ever ignored, dismissed, or abandoned the way they were.
We are raising funds to support Tiara’s funeral expenses, shelter and legal battle — to cover the attorney fees and legal costs necessary to fight this long and difficult road ahead. She is not just seeking justice for her daughter. She is standing up for every vulnerable child and every marginalized parent silenced by systemic neglect and bias.
Tiara has already lost so much. Let’s not let her fight this alone.
